An old man leans wearily on his desk, sifting through the short and tedious application letters forwarded for his perusal. Exasperated, he pushes the pile away and pulls towards himself a fresh piece of parchment and a new quill.
To those wishing to apply to the Imperial Army,
Application letters to the Imperial Army are not to be taken lightly. It is the first impression that we have of you, and first impressions certainly stick. Applicants would be reminded that a letter is the only requirement for recruitment to the Imperial Army prior to your acceptance or denial by vote, and as such, we expect more than a few sentences. If you cannot muster more than a few sentences as to why you would dedicate yourself to the forces of the Empress, may She live forever, then perhaps you should reconsider your choice.
Consider, when writing your letter, that the Imperial Army has many soldiers amongst its ranks. As an applicant, you are likely to meet only a small percentage of those soldiers. If your letter is all the remainder have to assess of your skill, ability and personality, you would do well to spend some time on it.
Below, are some things to think about for those considering applying.
Signed Retired Captain Drol Al'Drakken. Drillmaster General of the Imperial Army
All OOC: 1. Consider the back-story of your character. If you insist on being a Lord/Lady/King's Jester, at least make an effort when you explain why you would want to join an army. 2. Please write more than 3 or 4 lines. This is seriously the only 'task' required of any applicant before clanning, and if you can't spend more than 30 seconds writing a letter, it says more about you than those 3 or 4 lines do. 3. Show some sort of basic understanding of the Seanchan Race. Telling us you can channel/eat dinner with trollocs/are a darkfriend does not bode well for you. Bonus points to those who know who the 'Empress' is... 4. Remember that we have all seen the whole, 'my family was killed by xxx', 'I didn't want to do the same job as my dad/aunt/pet dog' before. It's fine if you think that really happened to you, but remember it's not original or interesting and trying to work out the difference between you and Joe-Blow Applicant might otherwise be tough.
I'll add more as I think of it.
Drol.
