"I did enjoy this mud, and I thought they had several innovative concepts. I would like to spend even more time on here, then try the more advanced race and class combination, and see how that goes. I would say that if you are interested in player killing and look for large player bases, then this mud might be for you. They have been open since 1993, and Wheel of Time seems a very polished product. On the other hand, if you are strictly into role-playing, or do not enjoy player killing or for that matter do not like huge hordes of players, then you might very well find Wheel of Time somewhat intimidating. This mud has a great deal going for it, and as proof, just look at how they have accrued several awards and a huge fan base. I would say they are doing something very right, but that it is a taste that will not suit all comers."

August, 2000:

WoTmud.org was named as one of the top 100 sites of the web for 2000 by surfer's choice.

Libertysurf made us one of their featured muds.

April, 2000

The RPG League made us a "superior site"...

29 February: The guys at Wotmania were sufficiently impressed with our wottishness to make us their site of the month for March 2000, and wrote up this:

"I have featured a number of sites in this section before, but never a WoT mud. So this month I am featuring one of the best mud's around - the Wheel of Time mud (WoTmud). The site itself is at http://wotmud.org. It is a sharp looking site, and has enough information to get you up and running in the mud. It is the only WoT-oriented mud to be featured by The Mud Connector, one of the definitive mud sites on the Web. Over one hundred people are often playing the game on any given evening. If you are interested in getting involved in a WoT-oriented mud, WoTmud would certainly be a great place to start!"

Overnight, on 25 February 110,000 people suddenly heard about the Wheel of Time thanks to the "Cool Tricks and Trinkets Newsletter". This is what they said:

"Many of us have heard of the game Dungeons and Dragons. For those of us who were not a part of the generation who took part in the role-playing phenomena, the whole experience remains a bit of a mystery. If you've ever wondered how our youth could squander their weekends locked in a friend's room, armed with nothing but dice, character sheets, books, Domino's pizza, good banter and their imagination, this site may make you a believer.

The Wheel of Time MUD (multi-user dungeon) is a game based on the Dungeons and Dragons of yesteryear. Armed with your newly generated character, submerse yourself in a mythic land of trolls, halflings and griffons set amidst the adrenaline rush of a race war. No 3D graphics or torso-twisting sounds are to be found here, just a black screen, white text and a drop of imagination."

We were given Gamezworld's Gold Medal on February 14, 2000

GameZworld"When we were given Gamezworld's Gold Medal, they added that "...this is the best site the award has yet been given to, be sure to check it out!". That's rare praise indeed...

We were covered in Netsurfer magazine, a weekly no-frills ezine about www happenings. Check out what they had to say on February 11, 2000:

"Playing in a multi-user dungeon (MUD) gives a real feel for the Good Olde Days of the Internet, when men were men and trolls were non-player characters that got killed a lot. No graphics, no sounds - just a black screen, white text, and a touch of imagination. Although no longer a mainstream activity with the advent of first-person shooters, MUDs retain a charm and attraction all their own and thousands of people still play. The Wheel of Time MUD, based on the books by Robert Jordan, nestles within a stunningly designed site which uses Flash, Java and the latest bleeding-edge techniques to provide detailed and friendly instructions and background. Despite testing it at peak times, we found minimal lag and the denizens friendly and eager to help, a characteristic of all well run MUDs."

Freelaunch.com, which looks at some of the free things that are around on the net, gave us a very nice writeup indeed and featured us during the week of January 23, 2000:

"Long before the advent of Web browsers, like Explorer and Netscape, there existed a vast community of online gamers. They accessed the Internet using "telnet" clients, rather than browsers, and established a broad network of MUDs (Multi-User-Dungeons). MUDs are still quite popular, and there are thousands of active MUDs in operation today. In Time-Out this week, we feature an outstanding MUD, the Wheel of Time, established in 1993. The site offers a thorough tutorial for the beginner, and boasts more than 6,000 active played characters. Give it a try - it's exciting and showcases the Internet at it's best!"

The old website was featured on games.net on 15/1/99 as their website of the day.

"Let's face it, muds are a lot of fun. You may not get shiny graphics, or forsaken-style lightning. But you definitely get several hundred hardcore roleplayers, all out to have a good time. And did we mention that WoTmud IV is the bee's knees?

Great content: Yes
Great Layout: Yes
Great Graphics: Yes
Great Links: Yes
Will you let you pet its Rancor? No

Total Score: 4 out of 5!"

Review at MiningCo.com, December 1998

"Sometimes there's nothing better than a good mud - especially one built upon a killer world - that of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series. WoTmud IV combines over 9,000 rooms, 800 mobiles and locales and characters taken directly from the books. WoTmud IV was one of the first, and is one of the oldest WoT muds out there. The site contains much information, for both beginner and veteran. Play Dreadlord or even a dreaded Myrdraal, using Telnet or JAVA!"

Review at Medaille d'or, November 1998

"This extremely good looking site is focused on an online mud. As much thought has been given to presentation as content, and the overall effect is highly effective.
