Starting out on a mud can be quite confusing, especially as a beginner, more commonly known in the game as a newbie. When you first connect, by either pointing your telnet software to wotmud.org:2222 or by using our web interface and reaching the welcome screen, you are prompted for a name, race, sex and profession. Choose any name you like (but someone else may have already chosen that name).

As a learner you'll die least as a human warrior. The name that you choose is entirely up to you, but something in-character will stand you in good stead. By this I mean a name such as those in the books, although the really special names are barred, for they are used by the game itself already. Also, we just don't want 50 Rands running around :)

We also have a custom Wheel of Time names generator on our website, using the grammatical rules from the books (well as far as I could reverse engineer them anyway!), this gives up to 100 names at a time so you'll find something good to use there.
