Aes Sedai
Those few people who were born with the ability to touch the True Source or
were able to learn the ability to touch it are often referred to as 'Channelers.'
They are feared by most people in the lands, often called Darkfriends, though
never where it can be heard. channeling involves weaving the flows of the True
Source (commonly thought of as fire, wind, water, earth and spirit) to achieve
ends which are not possible in the mundane world. This weaving requires great
training in order to avoid personal injury, even to the extent of possibly stilling
oneself. Because of this, the White tower of Tar Valon seeks out those women
who have the ability to channel and bring them in, where they can be taught
to channel by those who have learned before them through rigorous exercises.
The tower knows many more weaves than are known by wilders, and will teach the
weaves to all that join. Successful completion of this training results in eventually
being raised to a full 'Aes Sedai' and the taking of three oaths: To never tell
a lie; To never use the power as a weapon except as self defense or against
an agent of the Dark One; and to never use the True Source to make an item with
which one person may harm another.
Societies among the Aes Sedai, seven in number and designated by colors: Blue,
Red, White, Green, Brown, Yellow and Gray. All Aes Sedai except the Amyrlin
Seat belong to one. Each follows a specific philosophy of the use of the One
Power and the purposes of the Aes Sedai. The Red Ajah bends its energies to
finding men who can channel, and to gentling them. The Brown forsakes the mundane
world and dedicates itself to seeking knowledge, while the White, largely eschewing
both the world and the value of worldly knowledge, devotes itself to questions
of philosophy and truth. The Green Ajah (called the Battle Ajah during the Trolloc
Wars) holds itself ready for Tarmon Gai'don, the Yellow concentrates on the
study of healing, and Blue sisters involve themselves with causes and justice.
The Gray are mediators, seeking harmony and consensus. A Black Ajah, dedicated
to serving the Dark One, is officially and vehemently denied.

Warders
A warder is a warrior bonded to an Aes Sedai. The bonding is a thing of the
One Power: by it he gains such gifts as quick healing, the ability to go long
periods without food, water, or rest, and the ability to sense the taint of
the Dark One as a distance. So long as a Warder lives, the Aes Sedai to whom
he is bonded knows he is alive however far away he is, and when he dies she
will know the moment and manner of his death. The bonding does not tell her
how far he is, though, nor it what direction. While most Ajahs believe an Aes
Sedai may have one Warder bonded to her at a time, the Red Ajah refuses to bond
any Warders at all, and the Green Ajah believes an Aes Sedai may bond as many
as she wishes. Ethically the Warder mus accede to the bonding voluntarily, but
it has been known to be done against the Warder's will. What the Aes Sedai gain
from the bonding is a closely held secret.

Wolfbrothers
Increasingly, more reports have come in of somewhat wild, yellow-eyed men, growling
and baring sharp teeth in an uncontrolled frenzy. These men have been known
to have fore-knowledge of raids of the shadow, and wolves come to their aid
in times of trouble. They shun cities, but are fierce fighters against the shadow,
often informing other people of danger before looking after themselves. Elyas
Machera, a former warder, is one such man and their presumed leader. He patrols
the Braem Wood in caemlyn for signs of trouble, along with Burn and Hopper,
his canine companions.

Thiefbane
Nobody knows what the thiefbane do, as their size, purpose and members are shrouded
in secrecy.

Gleeman
A welcome sight in the war-torn lands, Gleemen distract, entertain and tell
stories, performing tricks, poems or songs for a small fee. They spread news
and recount the tales of the world for all to hear, and are characterised by
their brightly-coloured patchwork cloaks, a cheery sight.

Border Patrol
The Border Patrol is a group of soldiers and free men who think it their duty
to patrol the Blight Border. They fight back Trolloc invasions and lead forays
deep into the Blight and are rumored to have reached the Trolloc Keep and even
Shayol Ghul, though the stories of these daring raids are often recounted only
after several mugs of strong ale. The ranks of the Border Patrol are open to
all fierce fighters who hate the scourge of the north and wish to fight back.
A fierce one-eyed soldier named Uno leads these valiant defenders.

Valon
The Valon, which translates to "The Guard," are an elite group of soldiers
whose sole purpose is to defend the White tower and it's interests. They are
often found skirmishing with Trollocs near the Borderlands, or even outside
Tar Valon itself. However, joining the Valon is the first step to becoming
a Warder, seeing as many Aes Sedai pick their Gaidin from their ranks.
Lion Warden
The Andoran Queen's Guardsmen known as the Lion Warden are a group of soldiers,
loyal to the Queen unto death, who patrol the lands of Andor, seeking criminals
and thieves and generally upholding the peace. Recently, the Warden is known
to have put down the rebel group known as the Iron Fist who had established
themselves deep in southwest Andor. Ardent believers in justice, the ranks of
the Warden are open to all those who lead a rightous lifestyle.
Forresters
Forresters are free men, living their lives as they wish. They believe in freedom
and personal liberty. Each of them taking personal responsibility for these
freedoms. With very few exceptions they do as they wish. Most Forresters are
rangers and as such, the land is their true love. They believe the land to be
theirs and they, her protectors. Forresters are drawn together for the love
of the land. Those who wish to join cannot imagine any greater reward to be
had. The leader of the Forresters is a ranger known as 'Ryallin', often
found deep in the woods.
Children of the Light
A society holding strict ascetic beliefs, dedicated to the defeat of the Dark
One and the destruction of all Darkfriends. Founded during the War of the Hundred
Years by Lothiar Mantelar to proselytize against an increase in the number of
Darkfriends, they evolved during the war into a completely military organization.
They are extremely rigid in their beliefs, and certain that only they know the
truth and the right. They hate Aes Sedai, considering them, and any who support
or befriend them, Darkfriends. They are known disparagingly as Whitecloaks.
Their sign is a golden sunburst on a field of white. The Whitecloak Captain
is their leader
Kin
The Kin is a suspected group of women who have, for one reason or another, failed
at some point in their pursuit of the shawl. Having been expelled from the White
tower, they are rumored to have begun their own organization external to the
tower, living in peace and helping where they can with their skills. As always
with such a secret organization, discretion is of utmost importance, however,
a place can usually be found for those who have parted with the tower. They
are known to hold Aes Sedai in the highest regard for having achieved what had
so long eluded them. There are rumors that Selaana, the Wisdom of Whitebridge,
may know something of the Kin.
