The wheel of time

HELP! THE MUD IS REBOOTING!

Every 24 hours the mud will reboot, causing you to be unable to connect for a short period of time. This process reduces lag, reloads items ingame, and forces us to return to reality and attend to important things like showering, sleeping, and perhaps socializing with our friends and family.

The mud will send a prompt to you ingame when there is 5 minutes until boot, and will continue to countdown each tick until it reboots. This prompt gives you time to finish what you are doing and return to a city to rent. If you don’t manage to return to the inn and rent before boot don’t worry, your character will still be there after boot! You will return to the room were you were before the boot, however you will fall under the linkless rent category and be charged double what you are normally charged for renting if you do not log on within a certain amount of time after boot. If your allowance covers these charges you will be fine, if it doesn’t cover the charges you will owe the outstanding rent balance to the innkeeper. You will have to pay this fee before you can rent your character. Rent debt can be paid by selling items to the innkeeper (depositing items into rent storage then using the sell itemnumber command) or by renting at the inn with enough money on you to cover the cost. Your horse will also save over boot if you are riding it or it is following you.

If you have died or have just killed someone in PK and the mud boots before you can loot the corpse, it will be carried over to the next load. You will have to wait out the reboot period and then log back on before it disintegrates if you wish to loot it, as well as wait the time in the circle if you have just died. This is a recent addition and one we are very pleased with. Mob and smob corpses do not carry over boot.

If you wish to log onto another character after the MUD has booted, you will still have to follow the 5/30 rule concerning switching characters. If you are switching from a lightside human to a lightside human you only have to wait 5 minutes after the boot. If switching from a lightside human to a darkfriend human, or to another race you will have to wait until 30 minutes after boot to do so. It is 30 minutes as well if you were playing a darkside character or seanchan and wish to switch races.

If the MUD crashes the boot will be suspended for that day, until the next allotted boot time. You can check the length of time the Wheel of Time MUD has been up for by using the time command. The mud reboots after being up for around 23h30m and is usually down for a half hour to an hour or so. If the mud crashes you will be able to log on in the same room as you were in however corpses will not save over a crash and you may find that anything that you have done in the tick prior to the crash was not saved. You can manually save once a tick by using the save command.

During the downtime, feel free to check the forum boards, and chat with the other addicts who just can't get away from the game. Be sure to vote for the mud as well!
