WHEEL OF TIME MUD CLASSES

There are four character classes at the Wheel of Time MUD, although a two others, Fades and Dreadlords, are remort options available when characters achieve a certain level of roleplay and skills in fighting. Each class offers its own weaknesses and strengths, such as a lessened practice cost for class-related skills. Warriors pay for example only one practice session while practicing warrior skills. To balance this, it costs more to practice skills related to the other classes. This means that a warrior pays 2 practices for skills related to the hunter class, and three practices for rogue-related skills.

The Warrior Class

The warrior class is the "tank" class of the WoTMUD world due to the cheap practice cost for weapons, allowing the warrior a large degree of versatility in the use of weapons. This does not mean that a warrior can not take a different fighting setup, such as the dodge or combo options. When a warrior utilizes the skills of the rogue-class, the character will become just as flexible as a rogue. However, since it costs more to practice these skills, it is a less desirable alternative. On top of being very versatile with weapons, warriors also gain a berserk attack-bonus. Upon changing their mood to berserk, they get caught up in a fighting frenzy that allows them to attack multiple times in one battle round.

The Hunter Class

Hunters... a very versatile class

Hunters are a very versatile class as their cost for practicing skills is nicely balanced. This is probably the ideal class for newbies. A hunter can work well with most of the different combat setups. Hunters also benefit from a class-bonus, autotrack. This skill allows a hunter to read tracks on foot and horseback, without manually entering the tracking command (other classes need to manually type "track" in order to see tracks). Practicing more track (which costs but one practice session for hunters) allows a hunter to see more tracks automatically.

The Rogue Class

The rogue class is the stealth specialisation class. Skills based on using short blades and backstabbing create a character perfectly aimed at silently killing someone or something. To further their nature, rogues benefit from the auto-scan bonus. With this skill rogues can automatically scan the surrounding rooms. Rogues also get an automatic inventory-peek bonus. This bonus allows a rogue to see what someone else is carrying in his/her inventory. In combination with the steal-skill, this bonus allows a rogue to become a first-class thief. Finally the rogue class gets free sneak, which means that when using the sneak skill it does not cost them extra movement points as it does for other classes. The rogue class is considered the most difficult class to play well, relying on timing and skills to a greater degree than other classes.

The Channeler Class

Channelers are considered by some to be the most powerful class of the game, but can also be the most difficult to play successfully due to various penalties relating to statistics like strength and constitution, which generally leave the average channeler limited in available weapon options in the case of strength, and with a maximum number of hitpoints usually significantly lower than other classes in the case of constitution. Male and female channelers possess different strengths and weaknesses relating to both statistics and in-game playstyle, though such differences are usually best learnt in-game.

Channelers... considered to be the most powerful class of the game

Playing WoTMUD as a male channeler is not recommended for players new to the game. Just like in the books, male channelers are shunned and hunted. Staying unknown can be a problem because of the taint, which when significant causes a male channeler to perform random actions instead of those intended.

Fades and Dreadlords

Fades are considered one of the most powerful classes in the game, hence quite stringent requirements must be fulfilled before a character can remort to one. Dreadlords are essentially a Dark Side version of a clanned master channeler on Light Side; becoming a Dreadlord is usually something achieved via first becoming a Darkfriend on Light Side, and then fulfilling a number of requirements to eventually be eligible to be transferred to the Dark Side and remade into a Dreadlord.
