HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MUD
The Wheel of Time MUD is the most popular Wheel of Time game online, and has had constant development and improvement since 1993. This makes the Wheel of Time MUD an exciting, unpredictable place to play, with never a dull moment, and makes it a great place to socialise and interact with a huge variety of people. Couple that with great MUD gameplay and coding, designed with today's limited playtimes in mind and engrained with 'game balance' and 'players first' philosophies - and adding to that the utmost determination to represent Jordan's Wheel of Time world as accurately as possible, the value for money is simply unparalelled - unbelievably the Wheel of Time MUD doesn't cost a bean to play, and never will.
Why people play
Folk play the Wheel of Time MUD for all sorts of reasons, but it probably boils down to three main reasons: the people, the PK and the Roleplay. Of course, these are dozens of individual mud features that the players also like.
The People
The Wheel of Time MUD is a 24/7 game - there are always people online. As part of the community there you'll always have friends around to interact with, and the MUD never actually feels 'dead'. We have players from almost every country in the world and wherever you're from or whatever time you like to log on for a playing session, you'll always find people around. These are people that you'll get to know, go hunting with, slay an enemy with or simply roleplay with. Beyond that, the forums serve as a community centre through which you'll get to know and meet many others playing the game, making friendships which will last you through your mudding career. What's especially remarkable is the sheer length of time that people play the MUD, and how long they stay around. 5, 10, even 15 years is not uncommon - a testament to this game's enduring appeal in an age when online games as a sector now have a bigger annual budget than Hollywood.
The PK
Bottom line, no other Wheel of Time themed game anywhere does the racewar between the sides in the Wheel of Time universe as well as we do
MUDs are the fastest PvP there is around on the 'net. They're text-based and don't require extensive rendering, they don't require hefty bandwidth downloads and they don't require a bloated interface or client to play. Our PvP is a free for all which isn't levels-based, and we've added many PvP features to the game to make our PvP as convenient yet exciting as possible.
Also, we're without a peer. Bottom line, no other Wheel of Time themed game anywhere does the racewar between the sides in the Wheel of Time universe as well as we do. It is a fundamentally ingrained part of our online world which simply never stops; it encompasses entire continents and all people on that continent. It makes for a great story and neverending plotlines. There's rarely a moment when there's not some intense PvP going on somewhere, be it in the Blight, round Falme or in the centre of the Lightside heartlands, with an attack on Caemlyn, Tar Valon or Whitebridge, or a skirmish outside Fal Dara or Maradon.
The Roleplay
Roleplay probably really encompasses two types of players, roleplayers and immortals. For the roleplayers, there are 50 or so clans, each of which come from the books and each of which is set up with attributes, facilities and features allowing characters to roleplay their heroes and villains from the books. Being a busy MUD, the Wheel of Time MUD has every clan you'd expect, and every clan has very high levels of activity - there are always other roleplayers online for you to roleplay with. It is a great way for Wheel of Time fans to spend their time; and many do.
As part of the community there you'll always have friends around to interact with, and the MUD never actually feels 'dead'
The immortals are not only the game's roleplay managers ('Watchers'), for example, switching into the characters of the MUD and books, thus nudging along storylines and dramas, but they're also the people who write and design the zones and code the scripts that make the world come alive. It is a lot of fun being in a position to add features to a game; something that we let immortals do once they meet certain quality and experience criteria.
What the players think
It's probably a good idea to let the players do the talking about what the highlights of the MUD are for them. Although we can talk about the MUD's features until the cows come home, you'll get a better idea from them. Most of this information is in the mud reviews section of the website but you could also have a look at the wotmud forums to get a flavour of the game.
