AN ONLINE PK AND PVP GAME...

PK and PvP are strongly supported at the Wheel of Time MUD, and make the MUD what it is today. Conflict is rife throughout the globe... 24/7, 365/365, so for the PK hungry, there's always good PK going on. People log on, ask where the PK is today, and they're within a couple of minutes. Over the years we've added many features to make Wheel of Time MUD PK and PvP the most challenging and satisfying of any MUD out there, including features from MMOs and MMORPGs. For the experienced mudder this is a highly-paced MUD, with minimal player protections in place, designed to allow the best to excel and reach their full potential without anyone able to buy superEq, superSkills or superStats with credits.

PK and PVP: intra and cross-race warfare

Pk and PvP never stop at the Wheel of Time MUD. This is partially due to the racewar but also because there is another dimension to PK and PvP on the Lightside that's usually lacking from the Darkie or Seanchan sides: political wars between states and the hunt against darkfriends.

Just as the Lightside is engaged in a general war against that Dark and the Seanchan, each justice clan (ie clan responsible for specific cities) might also be at war with other justice clans, or might be rooting out Darkfriends. All of this makes the Human Lightside the hotbed of intrigue, and the most active side to start your the Wheel of Time adventures on.

The Wheel of Time MUD has many ways and mechanisms to promote Pk and PvP, some of which we've stolen from MMORPGs, some of which we've borrowed from other MUDs and others for which the players have simply begged us.

  • Moves and health regen rates 50% faster than other MUDs. Unlike MMOs, MMORPGs and other MUDs where there's a lot of dead time waiting for your moves or health to regen, we've changed the mechanisms so that there's not only less dead time, but also partial regenning during the tic.
  • Fast, devastating effects - PK and PvP arn't a case of nibbling away realllllly realllllly slowly at your opponent... they're fast and brutal. There are truly devastating killer characters here: our weaves can be cast up to five times per pulse and the blades carry a mighty cleave.
  • The complete real-time feel - with rarely a lag and if there is a lag, usually shorter than it takes for the 3D graphics in the latest 3D MMO takes to render a broadsword swing
  • Highly satisfying PK skills. Bashing is especially fun. Type ‘bash’ and the timer goes off, and if you’ve got luck and enough practices in bash, you’ll sit your opponent down for two turns, and dole out ‘frag’ damage.
  • In game storage system allowing you to store items for a rainy day with the innkeeper, and a similar clan storage system so that you can help re-equip your fallen comrade in arms.
  • A simple, linear skills system, designed to promote variety but maintained for ease of use. Our skills, races and classes don't require a PhD to understand them, yet promote an almost infinite infinite variety of characters across all races.
  • Potions designed to up your health and movement regen rates. Note, we deliberately don't have a potion that always gives you a fixed number of extra moves or health when you quaff it, we think that's bad practise in MUDs especially when people start carrying around 10 of these.
  • A fabulous variety of balanced weapon and armour classes with an immortal dedicated to this task, 12 weapon classes in all, with associated skills and tier setups designed to promote character versatility and specialisation rather than "1 man has it all". Additionally, we grant residual practices in related weapon types - we think it's reasonable that someone who is a master at longswords might know a thing or two about medium swords.
  • Earnable PK benefits for clan masters including leadable mobs, and a variety of PK bonusses for specific, Pk focused clans such as the Borderlanders and Warders.
  • Superb tracking system to be able to hunt down and find your enemy

Of course, admittedly there are certain things we don't have:

  • We won't overcomplicate things. Our optional spam toggles will greatly reduce the amount of clutter on your screen real estate during PK.
  • You won't be left out of the loop. Global race channel toggles with pk information flowing across the globe in seconds. If it happens, you won't be left out, you'll know where the action is.
  • No 'magic rings of protection' or 'glowing humming swords'. Nobody is immune from the blade, whatever your race, class or level.
  • The buffer won't get pulverised. Our unique faceoff system ensures that in group combat, the buffer doesn't eat all the damage, it's spread out to make the PK more a group experience.
  • No impossibly vast distances. Horses, Torm, Raken - all game methods designed to make managing your moves a bit less difficult. But they're all very killable by the enemy, so there are no permanent crutches around. A knowledgable person can horsehop their way across the map in minutes.
