WHEEL OF TIME MUD ROLEPLAYING
Wheel of Time roleplay is at the absolute core of the Wheel of Time MUD - and if ever there was a world designed for roleplaying, then surely Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is it. Roleplay opportunities range in breadth from the individual - character torments, flaws and unwanted magical abilities - to the national - state rivalries and the "Game of Houses" - to the global - the ongoing opera of the struggle between the Dark, the Light and the Seanchan. The Wheel of Time is a fantasically rich canvas to paint your roleplaying onto. In turn we've endowed the MUD with as many roleplay features as any MUSH, and we've managed to combine this with the gritty realism of a DIKU MUD. Roleplay is something you just can't escape at the Wheel of Time MUD, the outstanding game dynamics ensure that it's always encoueaged, always there and always happening.
Wheel of Time roleplaying
As its backbone, the roleplay structure in the Wheel of Time MUD revolves around 50 or so clans, each of which come from the books and each of which is set up with attributes, facilities and features allowing characters to closely mirror their heroes and villains from the books. Being a busy MUD, the Wheel of Time MUD has every clan you'd expect, and every clan has very high levels of activity - there are always other roleplayers online for you to roleplay with. From the extremist, zealous whitecloak to the snooty and arrogant Aes Sedai, there is a clan to fit any type of character that you might want to role-play.
The game roleplay managers ('Watchers') encourage the roleplay realism of the MUD along and this entire team of immortals dedicated just to roleplaying and roleplays interplays with clans by, for example, switching into the characters of the MUD and books, thus nudging along unexpected, unpredictable and fluid storylines and dramas. At the Wheel of Time MUD you never know if any character is computer-driven or if it has someone at the helm, controlling their words and actions. Roleplaying is a true artform and as a roleplay you can expect to have an amazing amount of attention paid to your character by your Watcher, helping you succeed at your roleplaying.
Roleplay... always encouraged, always there and always happening
By staying in character and adding to the setting and feel of the MUD, clanmembers are continuously rewarded in a huge variety of ways. Roleplaying logs are rewarded by mailing them to your clan imm, and every minute of the day, we invisibly randomly reward the roleplayers of the world whilst they're doing it. We'll reward you for completing the unique clan quests, which themselves are updated every few weeks to create a new set of challenges and adventures suitable to your chosen roleplay. Slaying the enemy, global quests and plots, uncovering darkfriends - all get rewarded, and you'll never feel that you're a lone roleplay voice lost in a dead MUD with no active immortals or active roleplayers.
Roleplay is rewarded well!
Rewards take a variety of forms (qps, coin, equipment, unique objects etc), but often there are some 'qps' involved, questpoints. Questpoints are our measure of your roleplaying excellence and ability: they are divided into clanlevels with named ranks, and once you're clanlevel 7 you'll be a Master of your clan, endowd with features and bonuses over and beyond regular mortals. You can even create your own house in the MUD at clanlevel 8, a chance to leave your testament to future generations. As you rise through these ranks, different clan-specific items become available to you to issue, items which enhance your characters over and beyond normal none-roleplaying characters.
... an amazing amount of attention paid to your character by your Watcher, helping you succeed at your roleplaying
But, rewards arn't just granted by your clan immortal, players can also reward each other for good roleplay and many a high-level character started their roleplay career by being rewarded by one of the ancient members of the clan. Clan ancients and newbies work together: besides providing a shared clan home that nobody else can access, we also have private clan forums for each clan in which they can communicate and swap ideas, and we have the notion of a shared clan 'equipment pot' - so if one of your fellows has a bad day against the foe, you'll be able to help him or her back on their feet straight away.
It doesn't just end there however. For example, there are all sorts of mobs in the world that allow you to swap clanned equipment, and you can even issue a full clan uniform that is unique to your clan only. We have a roleplay forum on the main site which focuses just on roleplays, and we have the most comprehensive set of Wheel of Time roleplay tools available of any mud out there.
The difference is...
The Wheel of Time MUD is just that little bit better to other Wheel of Time MUDs because the roleplays are true, and it's everywhere. Any action can carry an in-game consequence, and whilst the notion of "IC" and "OOC" are respected, at the Wheel of Time mud everyone is always "IC" - a mud where the roleplaying really matters and never stops. Warders really can fight their way through an army of trollocs, they're not a pretend warder which is actually some newbie who doesn't have a clue. Roleplaying here is intensive and realistic, a challenge for anyone irrespective of their ability.
